Military Deafness Claim Values

Once we accept a case, the question of how much compensation may be awarded is very often the first question we are asked – and one of the most difficult to answer.

Compensation payments for deafness and tinnitus alone, what we refer to as general damages, can be as high as £100,000 for those with profound hearing difficulties due to their service. We can usually give you an indication of approximate value once we have arranged for your hearing to be tested early in your claim.

Read about the case of the former Royal Marine who was awarded £700,000 compensation for hearing loss in March 2023.

More often that not the real value of your case may lie with what is called the special damages; an amount of money over and above the general damages award. It is quite common in military deafness cases for the special damages award to be significantly higher than the award for the hearing problem itself when we take into account some or all of the following:-

Hearing aids/treatment – Good hearing aids, and those most suited to your loss, can be expensive, perhaps as much as £5000 for a pair. If appropriate we will look to claim the cost of these and future pairs as part of your case.

Loss of career – Did you leave the military due to your hearing loss? If so you may have a substantial award due for loss of career and earnings.

Post military career – Even if you didn’t leave the forces due to you hearing problems, you may still find your career opportunities restricted due to the issue.

There are no restrictions as such as to what we can claim under the special damages heading, if you have suffered a financial loss or are likely to in the future then we will fully investigate this on your behalf to ensure that your case is valued correctly and that you get the maximum compensation possible.
